Alesis Surge cymbals make a big splash

We’re hanging out at the Alesis booth, checking things out, hearing the familiar rat-a-rat-rat of electronic drum kits. And then we hear something else… something that sounds like… can it be?… real cymbals!

That’s when we spot Kevin Lamar rocking out on a DM5 kit, outfitted with Alesis’s Surge cymbals. They’re said to be some of the best cymbal triggers on the market – because they’re essentially real cymbals encased in PVC. And judging from what we’re hearing, we’re inclined to agree.

“Damn, these feel like the real thing!” Lamar said as he got up. “I use an acoustic kit on stage,” he said, “but recording and at home, I use an electronic kit. I think I’m going to have to look into getting some of these.”

Lamar is currently on tour with Asher Roth, who plays The Tonight Show next week. “Things are heating up,” says Lamar. “You’re going to be seeing a lot of me in the future.
